The adventures in food tracking

I’ve been interested in optimizing how we source, cook, and store food for many years. I started exploring ways to connect loyalty cards across grocery stores, which obviously met stalling resistance from grocery chains themselves. I then shifted my focus to something that I could have more control over – the refrigerator. Most people have one. And it is the place where we store food we hope to eat at a later date.

The refrigerator is great! It keeps food cool enough to slow down bacterial growth, so that I have time to eat my food before they do. My problem was that I was, more often than not, throwing food out because I had forgotten it was in there and I had no idea if it was still edible.

So, I started playing with sensors to help me track and manage the food I had stored.

I started with the standard arduino and migrated to smaller arduino based controllers. I will use this blog to document the final steps into that journey.
