Holiday Card Turns on Xmas Lights

Following last year’s post on being able to turn lights on/off, I decided to re-use it for this year’s holiday card.

Users were invited to watch a live stream of our xmas tree and turn its lights on/off.

I was able to track social referral by using Buddy Media’s conversionBuddy alongside google analytics. CB gave me insight into how much social referral traffic I was getting and GA allowed me to view geo location of the visitors in real time. When users interacted, we’d guess who they were based on their realtime location and place a note in front of the camera wishing them a happy holiday. Their geo-location was then used to promote a facebook ad for that region.

Learnings for next year:
a) Light button should update continuously. It currently does not support concurrent visits.
b) Display user’s location as an ornament on the tree
c) Get rid of video ads
d) Allow users to leave message that are shown on the tree (as an ornament). wifi ornament
